LAWYERS CONTINUE ACTIONS WHITE BOOKLET PUBLISHED

The conflict brought on by the appointments of Alfred Veldama and Heloise Rozenblad as President of the Court of Justice and Attorney General that is being fought out by three lawyer's associations continues as the lawyers associations have now published what they refer to as THE WHITE BOOKLET. This booklet consists of no less than 50 authentic documents of the different points of view of the different associations in connection with the above mentioned appointments, the only exceptions being those of the Government, Veldema's and Rozenblad's. With this White Booklet the lawyers have fulfilled their second resolution in this fight, the first being not to give further legal advise to the Government.

JUDGES SUPPORT LAWYERS IN THEIR ACTIONS

Reports state that the Judges are all behind the actions of the Lawyers in their conflict with the Government over the appointments at the Court. Mr Hugo Essed states that even though it may seem that the Judges are quiet and that the Lawyers alone are making a noise it is definately a fact that the Judges are supporting the Lawyers in this matter. To support his statement, Essed used a citation out of the WHITE BOOKLET where in a letter that had been sent to President Wijdenbosch and which was signed by 10 Judges had informed the President that the legal procedures were not followed in the appointments of Veldema and Rozenblad and that they were not going to work together with them until this was done. The fact that the Judges are not in the limelight in this matter is mainly due to their position in society and any actions to be carried out by them should first be given a lot of thought because of the consequences it can have for the future of the Judiciary.

CUSTOMS REFUSE TO HOLD DISCUSSIONS IF ROY MAY IS PART OF THE DELEGATION

The talks between the custom union and the negotiation delegation did not take place yesterday as was scheduled because the union refused to hold discussions with Income tax director Roy May. This decision was made because the union does not trust May. Through a communication error the meeting began an hour later than was scheduled. It is expected that parties will come together again today at 5pm but that no dicussions will take place if May remains part of the negotiating team.
